Begun in the 13th century and
completed by 1378,the buildings demonstrate that the Catalan Gothic penchant
for broad, stout construction had some useful applications. Look up at the
ceiling and you fell you're looking at the upturned hulls of so many galleys.
The long arched (the arches 13m.at the highest) bays sloped off as slipways
directly into the water-which lapped the seaward side of the Drassanes until

half of EI Raval a fillip was the opening in 1993 ,on Placa dels Angels of the
vast,with Museum.The ground and first floors are given over to exhibitions
from the gallery's own collections.First things last,so head to the first
floor to approach the collection in a vaguely chronological fashion.Here,the
enphasis is on fairly modern times-from 1940 to the 80s.You will find works by,among
others,Joan Mirò,Antoni Tàpies,Paul Klee and Alexander Calder
